Why this site exists

Every video tool I tried had the same first step: upload your file. A two-gigabyte recording, over a connection that may or may not manage it, onto a server I know nothing about — and then wait, and then hope the free tier had not expired halfway through.

The upload was never necessary. Modern browsers can read, cut, and write video files on their own. So Vidkito does exactly that: the file is opened from your own disk, cut using your own machine, and handed straight back. Nothing is transmitted — which is why there is no queue to wait in, no size limit, and no reason to ask you to register.

Who is behind it

I'm Hunter, an independent developer. I build small tools like this one, mostly out of annoyance at the same things everyone else is annoyed by — the upload bar, the "sign up to download" wall, the watermark that appears on the file you just spent ten minutes cutting.

Vidkito is built and maintained by me, with help from the people who write in with bugs. There is no company behind it, and no plan for one.

What that means in practice

No upload. This is not a setting you can switch off, because there is no server-side video processing at all.

No account. Nothing here asks for an email address, and nothing is stored about you beyond the anonymous statistics described in the Privacy Policy.

No watermark, no quality loss. Each part matches the original file, because the video data is copied rather than re-encoded.

Free, and staying free. The tools run on your hardware, so running them costs us nothing to meter.

How to check the main claim yourself

You do not have to take "it never uploads" on faith. Open any tool, load a file, then disconnect from the internet and split it. It still works. That is only possible because the file was never going anywhere.
